Patty joined Jack at his show on November 12, 2009.

At the BMI Country Awards on November 11, 2009, legendary Kris Kristofferson was recognized as a BMI Icon.  As noted in the AP story on the ceremony:

Willie Nelson, Patty Griffin and Vince Gill paid tribute to Kristofferson, who cried during Griffin’s rendition of “Help Me Make it Through the Night.”

Oh, really? Well . . .

During taping, Patty joined Elvis on “The Crooked Line”, “Poisoned Rose” and “The Scarlet Tide”.

On Saturday night, September 19, 2009, Patty joined Buddy Miller during Buddy’s showcase at Nashville’s Cannery Ballroom during the Americana Music Festival.  Buddy and Patty sang “Worry Too Much”, “Dark End of the Street”, “Gasoline and Matches”, and the 2009 AMA Song of the Year, “Chalk”.  For a nice story of the show, click here.

Smart wordplay and gospel shone last night at folk fest

Can an admitted “lapsed Catholic” effectively sing gospel music? The question was asked and then quickly answered — yes, of course — when Patty Griffin took the stage. For all her other accomplishments, all the impressive stars who have covered her material, she has a hell of a soulful voice for this sort of Jesus-praising music.

“[Griffin] sang gospel last night like she was born to do this stuff.”

Accompanied only by her guitarist . . ., the set opened with a plea to “tell the angels to get my crown.” She proceeded to declare “If I had my way I’d tear this building down” and soon to Wade in the Water on the way to a Heavenly Day. Have to look into what the crown and building tearing down thing is all about, but Heavenly Day, she explained, was a love song about her dog. Later came more of the real gospel thing: Waitin’ For My Time, a joyous strummer about pining for the Rapture.

Hey, why wait when there’s Rapture right here on Earth? Right here on Gallagher Hill, yes sir.

Apparently Patty was talked into recording a gospel record after playing with Mavis Staples (who is not a lapsed Catholic as far as we know). It sounds like the record company didn’t have to twist Griffin’s rubber arm very much. She sang gospel last night like she was born to do this stuff. Maybe one has to be “lapsed” before one can truly appreciate it.
